Drug-Drug Interactions

The Eptus 25 can interact with Medications, including

• Anti-fungal medications like Itraconazole or ketoconazole; fluconazole is used to treat fungal infections
• Antiviral medications such as ritonavir and nelfinavir are used to treat HIV.
• Antibiotics such as Erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, and rifampicin treat bacterial infections.
• Anti-depressants such as nefazodone used to treat depression can interact with Eptus 25 tablet as these drugs reduce the breakdown of Eplerenone, thereby prolonging its effect on the body. 
• Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) jointly treat high blood pressure, heart disease, or particular kidney conditions. They may interact with eptus 25 tablet as these drugs may raise the possibility of high potassium levels in your blood. 
• Lithium is usually given to manage manic depressive disorder or bipolar disorder. Using lithium together with diuretics and ACE inhibitors has been shown to increase lithium levels in the blood, which may lead to side effects such as loss of appetite; visual impairment; tiredness; muscle weakness; muscle twitches.
• Immune-suppressing drugs like Cyclosporin treats skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema and curb rejection after organ transplantation. These drugs can lead to kidney problems.
• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) - pain killers such as ibuprofen, used to relieve pain, stiffness and inflammation. These drugs may lead to kidney problems.
• An anti-clotting drug like Warfarin: When taking warfarin, caution is advised since high blood levels of warfarin may alter how Eplerenone affects the body.  
• Anti-seizure drugs such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, and phenobarbital are used, among others, to treat epilepsy and may increase the breakdown of Eplerenone and thus decrease its effect.

• Liver or kidney disease: Eptus tablet is metabolised in the liver and excreted by the kidneys, and its elimination may be impaired in patients with liver or kidney disease. Therefore, dosage adjustments may be necessary for these patients, and close monitoring of kidney function is recommended.
• Heart failure: Eptus tablet is indicated for treating heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. However, caution should be exercised in patients with severe heart failure, as it may increase the risk of hyperkalemia.
• High serum potassium: Eptus tablet may cause an increase in serum potassium levels, especially in patients with chronic kidney disease or diabetes mellitus. Therefore, serum potassium levels should be monitored regularly in these patients.
• Diabetes mellitus type 2: Eptus tablet may affect glucose metabolism, and caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. Blood glucose levels should be monitored regularly in these patients.
• Patients with nil urine output (anuria): The kidneys primarily eliminate Eptus tablet, and its elimination may be impaired in patients with anuria. Therefore, it is contraindicated in these patients.
