Vitcofol Suspension is a nutritional supplement for people suffering from nutrient deficiencies. Nutrient deficiency occurs when the body is not able to absorb enough nutrients. An imbalanced diet, unhealthy lifestyle or inability to absorb nutrients may cause nutrient deficiency.

Vitcofol Suspension benefits people who have iron or folic acid deficiency. Vitcofol Suspension may also be helpful in the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia e.g. in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). More than half of the patients having RA develop anaemia. Doctors may also prescribe this syrup for pregnant women and lactating women. Some women have a greater risk of developing iron deficiency or anaemia during pregnancy.

Folic acid consumption is also important to prevent neural tube defects during conception. Premature births are a common occurrence in anaemic women. However, it is always recommended to ask your doctor for advice if you are pregnant and avoid self-medication.

Vitcofol Suspension contains three vital nutrients, i.e. Iron fumarate, Folic Acid, and Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12).

Iron fumarate elevates iron levels in your body. This increased iron is then absorbed by haemoglobin which helps to treat the symptoms of iron deficiency.
Upon absorption, Folic Acid, or vitamin B9, is converted to a folic acid derivative called tetrahydrofolate. This tetrahydrofolate is important for forming red blood cells (Erythropoiesis).
Cyanocobalamin is man-made Vitamin B12 and is important for keeping blood cells healthy.

Pregnancy

Vitcofol Suspension is prescribed for anaemic pregnant women. However, consult your doctor before taking Vitcofol Suspension if you are pregnant.

Breastfeeding

There are no known studies on the effect of Vitcofol Suspension on infants. Consult your doctor before taking this syrup while breastfeeding.

Alcohol

Drug-Food Interactions

Food rich in phosphates, tannic acid, calcium and phytates should not be taken with this syrup. Avoid taking caffeinated drinks i.e. green tea or black tea while taking this syrup as it reduces bioavailability of folic acid.

Vitcofol Suspension can interact with diseases, including:

Stomach ulcers
Conditions with high serum iron levels i.e. Hemochromatosis, chronic hemolysis, hypersiderosis
Blood disorders e.g. Thalassemia
Epilepsy
Degenerative or chronic arthritis
Conditions with high serum iron levels (hemochromatosis, hypersiderosis, chronic
hemolysis)
Conditions requiring frequent and continuous blood transfusions.
HIV infection without anemia due to iron deficiency highlighted by clinical measures.
