Composition

Ofloxacin (200 Mg) + Satranidazole (300 Mg)

Satrogyl-O Tablet is a combination medicine that belongs to a group of medicines called antibacterial and antiprotozoal agents. It is used to treat diarrhoea due to mixed infections in adults.

Some side effects may be noted with the use of this tablet, which should be timely informed to a doctor. Any allergy to this tablet, existing diseases and other ongoing medications should also be brought to the notice of your doctor before this tablet is prescribed to you.

Satrogyl-O Tablet is used in the following condition:

Treatment of diarrhoea due to mixed infections

Directions for Use of Satrogyl O Tablet 10

Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water.
Do not crush or chew the tablet, as this may affect the way the medication is absorbed in the body.
Do not change your dose of Satrogyl-O Tablet or take them more often than prescribed.

Satrogyl-O Tablet is taken orally as a tablet.

The common side effects of Satrogyl-O Tablet include:

Nausea and vomiting
Abdominal discomfort
Dry mouth
Constipation

Managing the Side Effects:

Most of the side effects are temporary and harmless, and get resolved by discontinuing the tablet. These may not require medical attention. To combat abdominal discomfort, take this tablet with food. If you experience severe or persistent side effects from this tablet, consult your doctor.

Satrogyl-O Tablet contains the following components:

Satranidazole (300 mg): It is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal medicine belonging to the nitroimidazole class. It acts against parasites such as amoebas and giardia by disrupting their DNA structure and inhibiting their growth. This helps to treat protozoal infections that can cause diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal issues.
Ofloxacin (200 mg): It is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits the bacterial enzyme DNA gyrase. This enzyme is essential for DNA replication and repair. By interfering with this process, ofloxacin disrupts bacterial DNA synthesis and inhibits bacterial growth. This makes it effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria.

Pregnancy

Pregnant women should cautiously take Satrogyl-O Tablet. It should only be taken if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. Inform your doctor while this tablet is prescribed to you during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding mothers should cautiously take Satrogyl-O Tablet. It may pass to the infant through breast milk. Before taking this tablet while breastfeeding, it is recommended to inform your doctor.

Alcohol

Alcohol is not recommended while taking Satrogyl-O Tablet. It can add to dizziness and lightheadedness due to this tablet. It can also worsen the side effects of this medication.

Liver

Satrogyl-O Tablet should be cautiously used in patients with severe liver disease, such as liver cirrhosis. If you have a severe liver problem, consult your doctor before taking this tablet.

Kidney

When taking Satrogyl-O Tablet, patients with kidney disease should exercise caution. Dose adjustments may be required in such patients. If you have kidney dysfunction, it is better to consult your doctor before taking this tablet.

Using Machines & Driving

Satrogyl-O Tablet may affect your mental or physical abilities to operate machinery or drive. After taking the tablet, you may experience dizziness. Therefore, avoiding any attentive task is recommended after taking this medicine.

Allergy

If you are allergic to ofloxacin, satranidazole, or any other ingredient in Satrogyl-O Tablet, you should not take it. Read the label and check the ingredients in the tablet to avoid allergic reactions.

Children

Satrogyl-O Tablet is not intended for children below 18 years of age.

Older Patients

Older patients with kidney dysfunction, liver impairment, and heart problems should take this tablet cautiously. Elderly patients taking corticosteroids should also cautiously take this tablet. They may also take other medications that can interact with this tablet. Consult your doctor and discuss your prescription medications before taking this tablet.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Satrogyl-O Tablet can interact with medications, including:

Antidiabetic agents such as insulin and glibenclamide. The concomitant use can result in low blood sugar.
Stomach acid reducers such as cimetidine. The concomitant use results in increased blood concentration of this tablet.
Immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine and methotrexate. The concomitant use results in increased blood concentration of these medications.
Antigout medications such as probenecid. Using probenecid together with this tablet can impact the elimination of these medicines through the kidneys.
Bronchodilators such as theophylline. The concomitant use can increase the levels of theophylline in blood.
Anticoagulants such as warfarin. The concomitant use can enhance the effects of warfarin.
Antiarrhythmics such as quinidine and disopyramide. This tablet should be avoided in patients using these heart medications.
Medicines or dietary supplements containing iron or zinc. It can affect the absorption of this tablet.
Medicines for stomach ulcers such as sucralfate. It can affect the absorption of this tablet.
Antacids containing magnesium or aluminium. These can affect the absorption of this tablet.
Corticosteroids such as prednisone. The concomitant use of corticosteroids may increase the risk of swelling of the tendons with pain, and tenderness.
Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or diclofenac. The concomitant use can make you more prone to fits.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Satrogyl-O Tablet can interact with diseases, including:

History of seizures: This tablet should be cautiously used in patients with a history of seizures and epilepsy.
Liver impairment: The excretion of this tablet may be reduced in patients with severe liver impairment.
Kidney impairment: This tablet is excreted by the kidney. Therefore, a dose adjustment may be required in patients with kidney impairment.
Tendonitis: This tablet may increase the risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture.
Low blood potassium (hypokalemia): This tablet may exacerbate irregular heartbeats in patients with low blood potassium.

Daily Dose

Take the recommended dose of Satrogyl-O Tablet as your doctor prescribes. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

If you take an excessive amount of Satrogyl-O Tablet by accident, it is essential to get immediate medical attention from your doctor or nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose include nausea, headache, and dizziness.

Missed Dose

If you forgot to take this tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for the next dosage is close, it is recommended to skip the missed one now and resume your regular dosage pattern. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.

Store this medicine at a temperature below 25 ºC in a dry place.
Protect it from light.
Keep Satrogyl-O Tablet away from children.

Drink clear fluids like water, oral rehydration solutions, and diluted fruit juices. You can make an oral rehydration solution by mixing salt, sugar, and water to replenish electrolytes.
Stick to the BRAT diet – bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. These foods are gentle on the stomach and can help firm up stools.
Dairy products and fatty foods can worsen diarrhoea. Avoid these until your symptoms improve.
Foods with natural probiotics, like yoghurt, can help restore the balance of beneficial gut bacteria.
Eat smaller, more frequent meals to avoid stomach discomfort.
Both caffeine and alcohol can contribute to dehydration, so it's best to avoid them during diarrhoea.
