Mefenamic Acid (100 Mg)

Mefkind-P Suspension belongs to the class of medications called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. It is used to treat mild to moderate pain. It is usually given for not more than one week.

It is used in children and infants who are above 6 months old. It is used to treat symptoms of inflammation and pain in arthritis, painful periods in girls, and sometimes to relieve fever in children.

Some side effects may be noted after taking this suspension, which should be timely informed to a doctor. Any allergy to this suspension, existing diseases and other ongoing medications should also be brought to the notice of your doctor before this suspension is prescribed to your child.

Directions for Use of Mefkind P Suspension 60ml

Shake Mefkind-P Suspension bottle well before use.
Use the provided measuring cup or dropper to measure the correct dose of the suspension.
Keep the bottle well-capped after use.

Mefkind-P Suspension is given orally.

Side Effects of Mefkind P Suspension 60ml

Common side effects of Mefkind-P Suspension include

Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal pain
Constipation

Managing the Side Effects:

Most of the side effects are temporary and generally harmless, which resolve on discontinuing Mefkind-P Suspension. Giving this syrup with food can help combat these side effects. However, please consult your doctor if your child experiences severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms.

Mefkind-P Suspension contains the following component:

Mefenamic Acid (100 mg): It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are chemical substances involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. Reducing the levels of prostaglandins helps alleviate pain and reduce inflammation.

Liver

Mefkind-P Suspension should be used cautiously in a child with liver disease. Discuss your child's condition with a doctor. Dose adjustments may be required in such cases.

Kidney

This medication should be used cautiously in a child with kidney dysfunction. Dose adjustments may be required. Consult your doctor before giving Mefkind-P Suspension to your child.

Using Machines & Driving

It is recommended to be cautioned against engaging in activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination after giving Mefkind-P Suspension to your child. Avoid sending them to park or drive a bicycle if they feel dizzy.

Allergy

If you are allergic to Mefkind-P Suspension or any of its constituents do not give it to your child. Read the label carefully before giving this medication to your child.

Children

Mefkind-P Suspension can be used in children 6 months and above. Consult your doctor for the dosage before use.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Mefkind-P Suspension can interact with medications including:

Corticosteroids such as prednisolone: Caution is advised due to the potential for increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when mefenamic acid is used concurrently with corticosteroids.
Blood thinners such as warfarin: Concurrent use may increase the risk of bleeding.
Other NSAIDs such as aspirin: Concurrent use with mefenamic acid may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration.
Antiplatelet medicines such as clopidogrel: Caution is warranted as concurrent use with mefenamic acid may increase the risk of bleeding due to potential additive effects on platelet function.
NSAIDs such as diclofenac: Concurrent use may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration.
Antihypertensives such as atenolol: Concurrent use may diminish the antihypertensive effects of atenolol.
Antiarrythmics such as digoxin: Mefenamic Acid may increase digoxin levels in the blood.
Quinolone antibiotics: Concurrent use may increase the risk of seizures.

Ulcerative colitis: Caution is advised as mefenamic acid may exacerbate symptoms of ulcerative colitis, potentially leading to increased gastrointestinal bleeding and inflammation.
Crohn’s disease: Mefenamic Acid may worsen symptoms of Crohn's disease, increasing the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and inflammation.
Liver diseases: Caution is required as mefenamic acid may exacerbate liver damage or impairment in individuals with liver diseases.
Kidney diseases: Mefenamic Acid may worsen kidney function or exacerbate existing kidney conditions.
Heart diseases: Caution is advised as mefenamic acid may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, particularly in children with pre-existing heart diseases.
Peptic ulcer: Mefenamic Acid may worsen peptic ulcer symptoms and increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.

Epilepsy: Mefenamic Acid may increase the risk of seizures.

Daily Dose

The recommended dose of Mefkind-P Suspension should be given to your child as prescribed by your doctor. Over Dose

If your child takes an excessive amount of Mefkind-P Suspension by accident, it is essential to take immediate medical attention from your doctor or nearby hospital in case your child experiences severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms. Symptoms of an overdose include headache, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, rarely diarrhoea, and disorientation.

Missed Dose

If you forget to give Mefkind-P Suspension give it as soon as possible. If the time for the next dosage is close, skipping the missed one is recommended and resume your regular dosage routine. Never increase the dosage without the doctor’s knowledge.

Store this medicine at a temperature below 30 ºC.
Protect it from moisture.
Keep Mefkind-P Suspension away from children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.

Include a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins in your child’s diet. Foods high in vitamin C, zinc, and iron can help support your child’s immune system and promote healing.
Avoid sugary and processed foods. It can weaken the immune system of your child and promote inflammation, making it harder for your body to fight infection.
Avoid spicy foods as they can trigger the symptoms.
