Calcitriol/ Cholecalciferol (0.25 Mcg) + Elemental Calcium (200 Mg)

Bio-D3 Plus Capsule is a combination medicine and belongs to the nutritional supplement group of medicines. It is used for maintaining the calcium and vitamin D3 levels inside the body during deficiencies.

It is also used in combination with osteoporosis treatment where vitamin D3 and calcium levels are very low, or there is a risk of getting their levels low. Calcium is an essential constituent of bones, and vitamin D3 helps absorb calcium in the intestine and deposits it inside the bones.

Directions for Use of Bio D3 Plus Capsule 15

Bio-D3 Plus Capsule should be taken as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow it with water, preferably after food, to prevent nausea.
Do not cut, break or chew the medicine.
It would be best to take it at a fixed time for optimal results.

Older Patients

Drug-Drug Interactions

The Bio-D3 Plus Capsule can interact with the following medications, including:

Anti-epileptic medications like phenytoin and barbiturates may interact with this medicine and makes vitamin D3 less effective.
Thiazide diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide may interact with this capsule and increase the amount of calcium in blood.
Lipase inhibitors such as orlistat may interact with this medicine and reduce the absorption of vitamin D3.
Bile acid sequestrants such as cholestyramine may interact with this capsule and reduce the absorption of vitamin D3.
Laxatives such as paraffin oil may interact with this medicine and reduce the absorption of vitamin D3.
Tetracycline antibiotics like methacycline and minocycline may interact with this medicine and reduce the absorption of the tetracycline antibiotics.
Quinolones like ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin may interact with this medicine and reduce the absorption of the quinolone antibiotics.
Cardiac glycosides like digitalis and digoxin may interact with this capsule and cause more side effects.
Bisphosphonates like risedronate and pamidronate may interact with this medicine and reduce the absorption of the bisphosphonates.

Drug-Food Interactions

The Bio-D3 Plus Capsule can interact with food, including:

Foods containing oxalic acid such as spinach and rhubarb: Taking this medicine with these foods can reduce absorption of calcium.
Foods containing phytic acids such as wholegrain cereals: Taking this medicine with these foods can reduce calcium absorption.

Drug-Disease Interactions

The Bio-D3 Plus Capsule can interact with diseases/conditions, including:

Nephrolithiasis (Kidney stones): This condition may worsen when this medicine is taken.
Nephrocalcinosis (Calcium deposits in kidneys): This condition may worsen when this medicine is taken.
Sarcoidosis (Immune disorder): Taking medicine in this condition can cause abnormal levels of calcium and monitoring of calcium levels in blood and urine is required.
Osteoporosis: Taking this capsule in this condition may lead to an excessive increase in calcium levels in blood.
Hypercalcemia and/or hypercalciuria: Calcium levels are already high in these conditions. Taking this medicine can further increase the levels of calcium.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of this medicine should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is essential to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

If someone takes an excessive amount of this capsule by accident, it is essential to take the patient to the nearest doctor. The overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, confusion, apathy, abdominal pain, thirstiness, and dehydration.
