Age and Dose Restrictions

• The medicine is typically prescribed for adults and children above a certain age, which your doctor will determine based on your child's weight and the severity of the infection. 

Contraindications

• If you have had severe allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics in the past, you should not take Sulbactam.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Sulbactam may interact with anticoagulants (e.g., heparin, warfarin), antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, amoxicillin), allergy medications (e.g., chlorpheniramine, ginkgo), and oral contraceptives (like ethinylestradiol, levonorgestrel).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• If you accidentally take too much of this medicine, you may experience symptoms such as increased muscle activity or convulsions. Also, inform your doctor right away.
• If you miss a dose of Sulbactam and it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects of Sulbactam are temporary and usually go away once you stop taking the medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or if your symptoms become worse, please consult your doctor.

• If you have diarrhoea after taking this medicine, drinking lots of fluids and eating foods rich in fibre can help.
• If you find that the injection site is painful or inflamed, applying a cold pack to the area can soothe the discomfort.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Sulbactam does not usually affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. However, if you feel dizzy or drowsy, avoid these activities until you feel better.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Sulbactam can cross the placenta and reach the foetus. It is also found in breast milk. Therefore, it should be used during pregnancy and while breastfeeding only when clearly needed and under the supervision of a doctor.

Caution in Other Conditions

• If you have kidney issues, your Sulbactam dose may need adjustment due to its excretion through urine. Caution is also advised if you have a history of allergies, asthma, or hay fever. Regular check-ups are important during long-term use to monitor the health of your kidneys, liver, and blood.
