Uses of Sacubitril + Valsartan

  • Sacubitril + valsartan is used to treat and reduce the risk of chronic heart failure.
  • It is also used to treat symptomatic chronic heart failure with left ventricular systolic dysfunction in children of one year and older.

  • Sacubitril + Valsartan is a cardiovascular agent.
  • Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It blocks the activity of specific natural substances that constrict blood vessels, promoting smoother blood flow and enhancing the heart's efficiency in pumping.
  • Sacubitril is a neprilysin inhibitor. It assists in regulating blood volume, contributing to overall cardiovascular control.

  • Sacubitril + Valsartan can be taken orally (tablet).

Age And Dose Restrictions 

  • This combination is intended to be used by adults and children above 1 year. 

Contraindications 

  • This combination is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to sacubitril or valsartan. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitors (ACEi) and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) therapy. 
  • It is also contraindicated for the concomitant use of aliskiren in diabetic patients.

Medications To Avoid With This Drug

  • Avoid taking potassium-sparing diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, and triamterene), NSAIDs (aspirin and ibuprofen), lithium, and other medications to treat high blood pressure or a heart problem. These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of this combination.

Overdose And Missed Dose

  • Overdose can cause hypotension. If you miss a dose of this combination, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.

Management Of Side Effects

  • If you experience hypotension or dizziness, get out of bed slowly, resting your feet on the floor for a few minutes before you stand. If side effects worsen or persist, consult your doctor for a possible treatment plan adjustment.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

  • This combination can make you feel dizzy and lightheaded. It is not recommended to drive, operate machinery, or do other activities requiring mental alertness or coordination after this combination. 

Use In Pregnancy And Lactation

  • This combination is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Caution In Other Conditions

  • Caution is advised in older adults and patients with hypotension, hyperkalaemia, kidney impairment, severe liver impairment and angioedema.

  • Avoid alcohol consumption, as it may increase the risk of adverse side effects.
