Mosapride

Uses of Mosapride

  • Mosapride is primarily used for managing various digestive disorders and belongs to the class of gastroprokinetic agents.

  • In addition to this primary use, it also helps manage symptoms associated with Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional dyspepsia, chronic gastritis and constipation by improving gastric emptying and regularizing bowel movements.

Side effects of Mosapride

  • Diarrhoea

  • Abdominal pain

  • Nausea

  • Headache

  • Dizziness

How Mosapride works

  • Mosapride is a gastrointestinal prokinetic agent.

  • It works by targeting and stimulating a specific type of serotonin receptor, known as the 5-HT4 receptors, which are found in your gut. When these receptors are stimulated, it leads to an increased release of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine. This acetylcholine then helps to increase the movements or contractions of your stomach and intestines (called motility), which in turn helps to speed up the passage of food through your stomach. This means that food does not stay in your stomach for too long, which can help manage symptoms like heartburn and indigestion.
