Levosulpiride

ANTACID

Uses of Levosulpiride

  • Levosulpiride is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, vertigo, and hallucinations.
  • It is also effective for managing digestive issues like Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia, and heartburn.
  • Additionally, it may be prescribed for anxiety disorders with gastrointestinal symptoms and for preventing premature ejaculation.

  • Sleepiness

How Levosulpiride works

  • Levosulpiride is a prokinetic agent.
  • In the gastrointestinal tract, it enhances motility by blocking dopamine receptors in the stomach and intestines. This effect helps to alleviate symptoms of dyspepsia and other gastrointestinal disorders associated with impaired motility.
  • It acts as a selective antagonist at dopamine D2 receptors in the brain. By blocking these receptors, it helps to manage symptoms of psychosis and mood disorders.
  • It also has an influence on serotonin receptors, which may contribute to its effects on mood and gastrointestinal motility.
