Age and Dose Restrictions

• This combination medicine is primarily meant for adults of age above 18 years.

Contraindications

• Gatifloxacin + Ornidazole is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gatifloxacin, ornidazole, or any other quinolone or nitroimidazole antibiotics.

• Patients with a history of tendinitis or tendon rupture associated with quinolone use should not take this medicine.

• It is also contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Gatifloxacin + Ornidazole may interact with antacids, sucralfate, iron, calcium and zinc supplements (such as omeprazole, ranitidine, ferrous sulphate, calcium carbonate and zinc sulphate) and certain respiratory medicines (like theophylline and cyclosporine).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Gatifloxacin + Ornidazole may cause severe nausea, vomiting, CNS and cardiovascular effects. In such cases, immediate medical attention should be sought.

• If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects of Gatifloxacin + Ornidazole are temporary and usually resolve once your body adjusts to the medicine or when you discontinue it.

• Drinking plenty of fluids may help manage side effects such as nausea and diarrhoea.

• Eating small, frequent meals may help if you are experiencing stomach discomfort or loss of appetite due to this medicine.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• As Gatifloxacin + Ornidazole can cause dizziness, it may affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. Avoid such activities if you experience these symptoms after taking the medicine.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Gatifloxacin + Ornidazole falls under pregnancy category C, which means it should be used only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

• Both gatifloxacin and ornidazole are secreted into breast milk, so you should avoid using this medicine while breastfeeding. Always consult your doctor before using any medication during pregnancy or lactation.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with severe renal impairment should use Gatifloxacin + Ornidazole cautiously.

• The same applies to patients with significant hepatic impairment, as ornidazole undergoes significant hepatic metabolism.

• Eating a balanced diet rich in fibre can help maintain a healthy gut.

• Washing hands properly before meals and after using the toilet can help prevent bacterial infections.
