Dosage Forms Available

• Fluticasone Propionate is available to be administered via nasal (spray, inhaler) and topical (cream, ointment) routes.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medicine is meant for use by adults and children above 4 years of age.

Contraindications

• Fluticasone Propionate is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to fluticasone or any ingredients in the formulation. It should not be used by patients with untreated fungal, bacterial or tuberculous infections of the respiratory tract.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Fluticasone Propionate can interact with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir or ketoconazole), antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, telithromycin) and anti-fungal medicines (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Fluticasone Propionate may lead to symptoms of hypercorticism, such as weight gain, striae (skin scarring that appears as indented streaks), and easy bruising. Adrenal suppression may occur. If you observe any of these symptoms, inform your doctor immediately.

• If you forget to take this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double up the dose.

Management of Side Effects

• Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of fluids can help manage some of the side effects, like dry mouth.

• Applying a moisturizer can help manage skin irritation caused by topical application.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Fluticasone Propionate does not generally affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. However, if you feel dizzy or sleepy after using this medicine, avoid these activities until you feel alert again.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Fluticasone Propionate should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits justify the potential risks to the fetus. It is not known if Fluticasone is excreted in breast milk. Caution should be exercised when prescribing this medicine to breastfeeding women.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with a history of glaucoma, cataracts, tuberculosis or herpes eye infection should exercise caution when using Fluticasone Propionate. This medicine should be administered cautiously in patients with existing liver conditions due to its extensive metabolism in the liver.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• For managing allergic rhinitis or asthma, it may be helpful to avoid triggers such as dust, pollen, pet dander, and certain foods.

• Quitting smoking can greatly benefit your lung health, especially if you have COPD.
