Dosage Forms Available

• Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid is available for oral administration in two forms: film-coated tablets and powder for oral suspension.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medicine is intended for use in adults, adolescents, and children aged 2 months and above.

Contraindications

• Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid is contraindicated in patients who have known hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime, clavulanic acid, or any other cephalosporins.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid may interact with oral anticoagulants (such as warfarin, acenocoumarol), loop diuretics (such as furosemide, bumetanide), aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin, amikacin), other beta-lactam antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, piperacillin), and live bacterial vaccines (such as typhoid vaccine).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid may lead to severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, epigastric discomfort, seizures, and renal damage. If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

• If you miss a dose of this medication, take it as soon as you remember. However, if the time for your next dose is near, skip the missed dose and proceed with the regular schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage common side effects such as nausea and vomiting, take the medication with food.

• To manage diarrhoea, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid may cause dizziness as a side effect. If you experience this, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you feel better.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• It is advised to consult your doctor before using Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with severe renal impairment should exercise caution when taking Cefpodoxime + Clavulanic Acid as dosage adjustment may be required.

• The medication must also be used with caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy due to the potential for cross-reactivity.

• Maintain a balanced diet and ensure adequate fluid intake, particularly if diarrhoea occurs.

• Avoid alcohol consumption while using this medication, as it can exacerbate certain side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.
