Ampicillin + Dicloxacillin

Uses of Ampicillin + Dicloxacillin

  • Ampicillin + Dicloxacillin is a combination antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It contains two penicillin-type medicines and is effective for managing infections in the respiratory tract, urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, as well as in cases of meningitis, septicemia, endocarditis, bone and joint infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.

Side effects of Ampicillin + Dicloxacillin

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhoea

  • Skin rash

  • Headache

  • Dizziness

How Ampicillin + Dicloxacillin works

  • Ampicillin works by disabling the process that bacteria use to construct their cell walls. It binds to specific proteins in the bacteria, causing the cell wall to weaken and eventually rupture, leading to bacterial cell death.

  • Dicloxacillin complements this action. It, too, inhibits the formation of bacterial cell walls in a similar way, leading to the death of the bacteria.
